Sound & Music Technology

• Hardware Production - We’ll unpack the world of hardware production in the field of electronic studio and live production, allowing you to develop your skills using modern DAWs and outboard equipment alongside communicational skills, conceptual frameworks, connectivity methodology, multi-track recording, collaborative working processes and your own ability to innovate.

• Advanced Mixing & Mastering - Building on the skills learned in the Mixing module, you will look at more advanced mixing techniques and gain a more comprehensive understanding of this area of audio production. You will also develop skills in mastering, allowing you to effectively add the final touches to a range of audio projects, making them ready for a variety of platforms, such as streaming and physical formats.

• Immersive Audio - Immersive audio has evolved to encompass a wide range of applications, from audio capture techniques to mixing, mastering and listening experiences to video game applications, such as AR/VR. This module allows you to develop skills in the application of immersive audio processes, including spatial/object-based audio and surround sound mixing in our Dolby Atmos suite for a range of applications, not least emerging listening experiences for consumer platforms.

• Industry Experience - Deepen your understanding of professional practice through sourcing and engaging with an industry placement closely linked to your career ambitions. Teaching will focus on developing the necessary skills needed to succeed within a professional environment, the development of tools and resources to obtain a work placement and guidance on how to secure other appropriate opportunities. Through your work placement you will develop invaluable skills not only with relation to your chosen specialism, but applicable within a wider professional context in the sound and/or music industries.
  
  
• Professional Practice - Engage with the industry and better understand it through the development and release of a real-world commercial project. Designed alongside RouteNote - Europe’s leading distributor of digital music, which also includes the RouteNote Create platform - you will establish a route to market for either original music or sample-based materials that meet the criteria applied by RouteNote and/or RouteNote Create with the support of your personal tutor. You will negotiate directly with the Routenote teams, respond and make adjustments based on direct feedback, with the aim of releasing your original material into the commercial market.
  
  
• Research Practice - The benefit of this module is the scope of research possibility, inviting you to explore a topic of interest, and so engage with academia directly through your passion. This can even become part of a larger life plan, creating new pathways, fortifying skills and exploring networks in a chosen field. If you choose to progress on to a third year of study through one of our BA pathways, the work completed for this module operates as a foundation to your final-year Research Project.
