Meet Harry, the Student Recruitment Officer for dBs Institute of Music in Plymouth.

What did you do before joining dBs?

Before dBs, I worked as a freelance composer, music facilitator and guitar/piano tutor. I also recently completed an MA in Experimental Theatre Practice, specialising in improvised electronic music.

Why did you decide to become a Student Recruitment Officer?

I am passionate about music education and its ability to encourage innovation and exploration in a safe space. I also love dBs' approach towards Higher Education; having small classrooms so you get quality interactions with your tutors is so valuable.

Any special areas of interest?

I love improvisation, as well as using unusual methods, budget gear and apps when producing; I'm currently exploring using my iPhone 5s as an amp emulator for my Fender Strat!

What do you love most about what you do?

I love chatting to people about music and the value of music education in the UK. It's a pleasure to be able to have engaging conversations with all sorts of different people about what music means to them and how studying music can be their way into their desired industry. Having access to the studios is also a massive bonus!

Tell us about your proudest career moment

For me, my career has only just started, so you'll have to ask me later on in life! That said, some great memories for me include performing outside the Notre Dame Cathedral in 2018 and singing on stage at Disneyland Paris.

What do you get up to outside of your role at dBs?

I play keys in a band called 'Ser Schuhart', produce my own music, and you can probably find me sifting through CDs at a charity shop. I also enjoy swimming, surfing, and hiking - some of the benefits of living in the South-West.

Tell us something our students may not know about you?

Although I'm from Plymouth, I support Newcastle United Football Club!

It's a pleasure to be able to have engaging conversations with all sorts of different people about what music means to them and how studying music can be their way into their desired industry.
